Resfeber

The Traveller
Traditional Nautical tattoo's could be read off the body of a sailor like a symbolic book. Each inked image illustrated a hard earned badge of honour; a swallow for every 5000 miles travelled or a turtle if you'd crossed the equator. For the suspicious, certain symbols represented goodluck talismans; The North Star to keep one on course or guide you home, a spyglass to keep goals in sight, and Marina's lantern serves as a guiding light in dark or uncertain times. Banners and anchors were emblazoned with the names of those who kept you steady, or in this case - words of courage and strength for the lonely traveller. Pinups kept a sailor company, and were sometimes the only companion for months for a sole traveller.

Inspired by Marina's love of vintage illustrated maps and my own shared passion for world travel. "The Traveller" is a fragile being, literally too delicate to live out her namesake, echoing many of our own fears of setting out into the dangerous unknown. She herself becomes an illustrated map: perfect skin engraved with her strengths and fears, her achievements and deepest desires laid out for anyone who meets her on her journey to see.

Bespoke Doll Furniture - Coming Soon!

You know it's true love when he starts making you finely crafted bespoke miniature doll furniture....

My amazing man has begun an endeavour of crafting beautiful doll lounges to custom fit certain dolls in my collection like Enchanted Dolls, Popovy Dolls, Blythe and BJTales dolls. Each piece is different, and I'm delighted with the fine attention to detail and precise perfection he is so meticulously finising - the individual bed slats are all drilled into place with tiny wooden spokes, joins are secured and designed for strength and safety. I'm astounded and couldn't be happier that my dolls will have such elegant and masterfully made furniture to lounge on - the perfect compliment to their tiny haute couture costumes.

Please enjoy this small selection of detail photographs of his process. The good news for you.... we will have some for sale to delight your dolls too!

The first three creations, first coat of primer and undercoat.

Each bed-frame plank is individually drilled, and slotted over tiny wooden spokes.

Creating a weatherboard bed-head.

Each join is drilled through and secured with tiny wooden spokes, not just glued.

Quality workmanship, the joins are not simply glued together, but secured with drilled spokes.

Adding tiny details before we prime, undercoat, then paint the finished pieces.

Keep an eye out on his Doll Photography FB page to see progress, and be the first to hear about when the first range is finished and available!

Enchanted Forest

Remember our special commissioned "Kingfisher" costume ensemble created for Blythecon Barcelona in collaboration with Liquiriziadolly? For the sake of this photoshoot at the time I adjusted the size to fit the exquisite Resin line of Enchanted Dolls, but never did share the fantastical results.

Not wasting another second, please delight in this glimmering moment captured amongst the willows!

Thanks to Doll Photography for documenting this little wander amongst the willows.

Wigging Enchanted Dolls

I have been in wigging mode recently, not only creating a series of beautiful wigs for Popovy Dolls, but as always, dreaming up new looks for Enchanted Dolls. I adore that each different style and colour will completely transform the one doll into an array of interesting characters.... soft and innocent, dark and moody, or quirky and playful.... each allows a different hidden aspect of these masterful creations to shine through!

Royal Songbird

The Songbird, prized for her melodic singing voice, is hosted in her gilded cage, decked with rare jewels at the Royal Palace. Here she sings for Kings and Queens, for babe's who will rule vast lands. She sings in her golden voice of lands yet to discover, or foreign castle's, and sometimes she sings of the freedom she's long forgotten.

One of our most detailed Songbird Corsets so far - satin brocade in cream and caramel shades of gold, paired wit imperial purple organza. The front features strings of cascading beads paired with a matching necklace, accented by a delicate gold-trimmed bow. Trims in honey and golden hue's accented hemline's and the spine, laced together with a delicate custard-coloured 1mm ribbon.

Truly an extravagant and elegant piece for these highly sought after elite art-dolls.

The Royal Songbird is created to fit the beautiful and highly limited line of Resin Enchanted Dolls.

Changes to Orchid's Designs in 2014

The new year is almost here! A time to reflect on the year gone by, and make plans for the new one ahead. At Orchid's Designs I took some time to reflect on my brand, my goals and the direction I want to continue with.

When I began Orchid's Designs back in 2009, it was to create beautiful one-of-a-kind haute couture for dolls - elegant high fashion for elite and incredibly precious art dolls, usually made of fragile porcelain. 2013 saw me venture into the world of art resin BJD, Blythe and Makies, which I will continue... but differently. Blythe fashions seem to be characterised by identical dolly dresses made quickly and cheaply, produced in high numbers for a quick turnaround. This is not the direction I want my brand to go down, and so changes are to take place in what I will be offering from now on.

2014 will see Orchid's Designs focus once more on high couture fashions for such elite BJD as Enchanted Dolls, BJTales, Popovy Sisters, and LightpaintedDolls. These will be special designs, completely unique and made with the highest quality materials from such exclusive sources as Mokuba in Paris, rare antique laces, and exceptional designer fabrics.

We will be releasing a few fully costumed customized Blythe dolls available to adopt throughout the year. These will be special OOAK character dolls, with complete facial carving and artist face-ups. Each Orchid's Designs custom doll will fully embody my artistic vision and represent a little being of my own design with detailed costume ensemble, wigs and accessories.

For Blythe, I will be releasing highly limited pre-orders of couture garments that can be commissioned in a small availability of colours depending on the design.

This does mean the items in my Etsy shop will be the last basic pieces available for a little while. There are a selection of tutu skirts, simple dresses and individual garments for Blythe, Makies and some BJD basics available right now for the last time.

To celebrate strengthening my direction and to make way for the exquisite future designs I am offering a clearance sale on everything in the shop until January 14th in the new year (when the shop will close for a holiday till late February) This may be the last chance to nab some favourites you've had your eye on!

At checkout you can use this code for 30% off your entire purchase

Orchid's Wigs for Dolls

Introducing a selection of fantasy shades and styles to change the identity of your precious doll. Long blue braids made from mohair roving, wavy Siamese locks, or a short bob made entirely of ivory feathers. A wig can help your doll transform instantly from sweet and shy to loud and daring.

Made from custom hand dyed Mohair and silky Suri Alpaca (ethically sourced), our wigs are incredibly high quality. Each wig is on a skinny cap that fits the dolls head like a second skin, made with the same techniques as the elite Enchanted Dolls, LightpaintedDolls and BJTales wigs.

Orchid's Designs wigs are available for resin Enchanted Dolls, Makies, BJTales dolls like Mouse and LightpaintedDolls. Custom requests are invited.

Our newest Songbird is a creation from the sea. A masquerade of mint green, pastel shades and warm ivory. For the nereid who sings softly haunting songs that drift away into faint echo's on the breath of the salty wind.
